Can I bring my younger child on my work day?   expand

Babies up to 9 months are allowed to come with you on your workday provided they remain in a front carrier for the duration of school hours. Provisions are made to ensure only one infant is present per session.

While there is no formal system for childcare for siblings 10 months - 2 1/2 yrs, we encourage parents to arrange a "childcare swap" within the membership families. This not only is beneficial from the childcare aspect, but helps build the sense of community that we encourage at the co-op by helping each other out and establishing close relationships between the families. There is a database set up with contact information for families interested in establishing this arrangement.

Is there full-day care available?   expand

Our program does not offer full day care or before/after hours care. Our focus is on the interrelationship of the children and parents within the school day and our program is not set up to accommodate these provisions.

What if I am unable to make it to my work day?   expand

It is the parent worker's responsibility to cover their work day if they need to miss a day. This should be done in advance by arranging to "swap" a day with another parent or pay a volunteer parent to cover your shift ($30/shift).

How many children are in the class? What is the adult:child ratio?   expand

Class size varies from about 15 to a maximum of 24 students per session. There are two teachers each session who conduct the curriculum and direct the parent workers. The ratio of children to parent workers is 4:1 on average.

Is there a difference between the am and pm sessions?   expand

The program and curriculum are run exactly the same for the am and pm sessions.

Your program accepts 2 1/2 - 5 year old children. Are the children separated by age?   expand

The program runs a mixed-aged curriculum. This allows younger children to learn from the example of the older children and the older children to act as role models to the younger ones. Both age groups benefit from this interaction. Regarding the curriculum content for the mixed ages, we find that children take in and learn what they are developmentally ready for at their own particular stage of learning.

How does your program, with its play based philosophy, prepare children for kindergarten?   expand

We believe play is truly the precursor to educational learning. There is extensive research and evidence supporting the importance of play in early childhood development. As an adjunct to this, we do have a pre-K program we call "little group", employing the "Raising a reader" curriculum, which is offered only to pre-K students.
